STANFORD, Calif. - After playing our home opener on Sunday, we headed out East to play UNC Greensboro and Virginia Tech. We left early on Wednesday morning and passed the time on the plane by sleeping and taking entertaining videos of the unlucky few that were caught snoring. After arriving in Greensboro we went in search of a field for practice, and eventually we found park that had some open space. However, the one thing that the field lacked was goals, but this turned out to provide more entertainment than inconvenience. What started out as a fairly low-key practice turned into a battle when the coaches decided to play in a game involving four teams, four trashcans as goals, and an unclear set of rules. The game ended up going on for quite some time, and when we were beginning to wonder when we would head to dinner, Paul mysteriously called the game when his team scored.
In addition to practices, we spent the rest of the time leading up to the games hanging out around the hotel, watching movies, looking up classes, and alternating between Chili's and Olive Garden for dinners. By the time our game rolled around on Friday we were all excited to get out and play, and we were happy to come away with a win and a shutout.
Saturday, we had a light practice and took it easy the rest of the day in preparation for our game Sunday, and while we were getting a little antsy to be out of the hotel we had to keep reminding ourselves that school will be starting soon and boredom will be a thing of the past. Sunday morning, we woke up and headed to the field, and after a score of 0-0 in the first half, we came out strong in the second and scored five goals. And despite being across the country, the parent's cheering section made us feel like we were at home.
Overall, we had a good time on our trip to Greensboro, but it will be great to be back at Stanford as we get ready for our upcoming games this weekend.
