TUCSON, Ariz. - The Stanford synchronized swimming team scored 102 points Saturday to defeat Arizona and Michigan in Tucson, Ariz. The Wildcats finished second with 27 points, while the Wolverines were third with 20 points.
"The team was able to make some improvements today from last weekend," said head coach Heather Olson. "I expect to see better leg extension and energy tomorrow. It is always a challenge to go straight to a competition off of the airplane and the team handled that well today."
Stanford swept the trio competition as the Cardinal finished in the top three places. The team of Debbie Chen, Olivia Morgan and Maria Koroleva placed first. Finishing behind the trio in second place was Madison Crocker, Morgan Fuller and Michelle Moore. The honorary trio, finishing third, was Megan Hansley, Corinne Smith and Wendy Lu.
Seniors Chen and Taylor Durand won the duet competition for the Cardinal while sophomores Koroleva and Morgan came in second. The duet from Arizona finished third, while Michigan was fourth.
Stanford also won the team competition on day finishing ahead of Arizona, who placed second, and Michigan, who finished third.
The Cardinal will remain in Tucson for the West Regional, Sunday, hosted by the University of Arizona.
