CHICAGO, Ill. - The fourth-ranked Stanford men's gymnastics team finished the regular season in fine fashion, posting a 355.500-337.800 victory over host University of Illinois-Chicago Sunday. The Cardinal posted its second highest score of the season and has almost four weeks to prepare for MPSF conference championships in April.
Stanford won all six team events and captured five of the six individual titles in a balanced performance. Individual winners including John Martin on pommel horse, James Fosco on still rings, Sean Senters on vault, Cameron Foreman on parallel bars and Eddie Penev on high bar.
Martin's 15.700 on pommels, Fosco's 16.000 on rings and Foreman's 15.200 on parallel bars set season highs for the Cardinal.
The time off couldn't come at a better time for the Cardinal. Competing short-handed all year, the team has fielded a squad of eleven for most of the season and will benefit from escaping the grind of competition for a while. Stanford wrapped up the season with six meets in five weeks, taking to the road for three meets in the past nine days.
MPSF Championships are hosted by the U.S. Air Force Academy and will take place in Colorado Springs, Colo. on April 7.
