Stanford Women's Crew defeated Princeton University in the grand final of the Women's Henley Regatta Sunday afternoon and return to the States as champions of the Senior Four event. Their morning semi final was uneventful as they defeated England's Aberdeen University with a time of 5:42. Princeton defeated Seattle Pacific University in their semi final in a time of 5:41 thus setting the stage for a great grand final in the afternoon. Slow out of the starting platform, Stanford found themselves down by 3/4 of a length to Princeton at the 600 meter mark. Their move at the 750 brought Stanford even with their competitor. At 900 meters Stanford was 1 seat up and committed to extending this lead through the finish line. The last 600 meters saw Stanford walk away from Priceton to finish 2 3/4 lengths ahead of the Tigers. In the first of what the Women's Team hopes will be a tradition across the Atlantic every four years the Stanford crew of Wendy Hoeveler, Missy Fiesler, Melissa Haury, Ashley Maloney, and Stephanie Connolly have set an impressive standard. Congratulations to these Cardinal athletes!
