STANFORD, Calif. - The Stanford women's gymnastics program has announced the signing of three athletes - Natalie Foley (Colorado Springs, Col.), Jessica Louie (Sacramento, Calif.) and Glyn Sweets (Reston, Va.)- to National Letters-of-Intent beginning with the 2002-03 season.

"I couldn't be more excited about my first recruiting class at Stanford University," said head coach Kristen Smyth. "All three newcomers are outstanding student-athletes and will have an immediate impact on our program."

Foley is an International Elite gymnast from Colorado Springs, Col., and is currently ranked seventh in the country. She earned a spot as an alternate on the bronze medal-wining U.S. World Championship Team. Foley's extended swing on bars is among the best in the country and was the 2001 U.S. Classic vault champion.

"Natalie is one of the best gymnasts in the country and will be an exciting all around performer," said Smyth. "She is also explosive on vault and floor exercise, and is extremely talented on the uneven bars."

Louie is a level-10 gymnast from Sacramento, Calif. While competing at 2001 Level-10 Nationals, she placed seventh on the all-around, second on the floor exercise and third on the vault. An explosive vaulter and tumbler, she will add depth to the program. `

According to Smyth, "Jessica is extremely powerful and should help bring our vault and floor exercise team to the next level."

Sweets is a level-10 national champion hailing from Reston, Va. In addition to competiting for the National Elite Team, she has competed for Hill's Gymnastics club squad.

"Gyln is a beautiful gymnast with exceptional lines and is strong on all four events, explained Smyth. "She brings a wealth of competition experience and a tremendous amount of poise and charisma to our program."

Stanford wrapped up its best season in recent memory two weeks ago, advancing to the 2002 NCAA Super Six for the first time in school history.
