Danielle Spencer Joins Lacrosse Coaching Staff

STANFORD, Calif.-- Stanford Lacrosse announced the hiring of Danielle Spencer, a two-time All-American from powerhouse Northwestern, as its new assistant coach.

"We are very excited to have Danielle join our staff," said fourth-year head coach Amy Bokker. "She has the background of a proven champion. She is passionate about the game, has a tremendous work-ethic and is dedicated to help make Stanford lacrosse the best we can be. We think she is a great addition to our program and can't wait until she gets started."

The Brighton, N.Y. Native completed her playing career just outside the Windy City in 2010, playing in 83 games, ranking second in program history with 203 draw controls and seventh with 238 career points. Her 193 goals ranked sixth. She was also a three-time All-American Lacrosse Conference selection, earning first team honors her last two seasons.

Spencer is in her second year with the U.S. National team.

Spencer has been part of a Northwestern program that set an NCAA record for 58 consecutive home victories from 2004 to 2010 and won 41 consecutive games from 2008 to 2010. The Wildcats won NCAA titles her first three years (2007, 2008, 2009) before falling in the national finals in 2010. Overall the team went 85-4 (.955) overall and won all but one conference game, going 43-1 (.977).

The two-time All-American earned first team accolades following 59 goals and 77 points as a senior, which included 110 draw controls-- the third most in NCAA history.

Her first All-America certificate, second team honor in 2009, came after she netted 64 goals and 84 points her junior year. The team-leading 64 goals was the seventh-best total in Northwestern history, and was the first of two All-ALC honors.

As a sophomore, paced by 59 goals, she earned second team All-ALC accolades. She played 17 games off the bench as a freshman in 2007, the first of four NCAA finals..

As a prep, she led Brighton High to the state championship in 2005 and state finals in 2004. The two-time Academic All-Big 10 selection was named the 2009-10 Big Ten Distinguished Scholar as well. She earned a degree in social policy from Northwestern in 2010.

During the 2010-11 season, Spencer assisted with the local lacrosse clubs Firehawks, Bay Area Wave, and the Northern California Elite team

Spencer takes over for Jaime Sellers, who was named the head coach at Coastal Carolina University.
