Today's Opponent: Santa Clara
Santa Clara (14-6-2), the West Coast Conference runner-up and a perennial national power, is back after a losing 2008 season. The Broncos have advanced to the round of 16 nine times since 1998 and six times since 2001. Sixth-year senior Jordan Angeli was named WCC Defensive Player of the Year for a team that has nine shutouts and allowed only 19 goals. The Broncos have 33 goals this season, with Angeli leading the way with seven.

The Santa Clara Series
Since its first season in 1984, Stanford has played Santa Clara more than any other opponent. Santa Clara holds an 18-9-5 lead in 32 all-time matches, including a 5-1 edge in NCAA Tournament play. Stanford's only NCAA victory in the series was a 2-1 first-round overtime triumph in 1991, on a pair of goals by Jen Potok. This will be their first NCAA meeting since 2003, a 1-0 first-round Santa Clara triumph. This is the furthest NCAA round the teams have met. This season, the teams met Oct. 1 at Santa Clara, with Stanford earning a 6-2 victory. Kelley O'Hara and Christen Press each had two goals and an assist. In their past two meetings (2008 and `09), Stanford is 2-0 and has outscored the Broncos 11-2.
