Stanford, Ca - Grant Robison, the 2003 NCAA champion in the 1,500 meters, placed third among America's best runners on Sunday in the finals at the United States Outdoor Track & Field Championships at Cobb Track & Angell Field.

Robison ran the distance in 3:44.83. Former Cardinal All-American Jason Lunn captured his first U.S. outdoor title in a time of 3:44.83. Bryan Berryhill finished second (3:44.30) while another former Cardinal star, Michael Stember, placed fourth (3:45.14).

The top three finishers in the 1,500 meters qualify to represent the United States at the IAAF World Track & Field Championships in Paris in August. Robison still has to meet the IAAF "A" standard in order to compete in the meet. Robison has a season and career-best 3:40.39. The IAAF "A" standard is 3:34.90. Several track & field meets will be held between now and the World Championships in order for Robison and other American athletes to meet the IAAF "A" standards.

Freshman Solomon Welch captured the U.S. Junior Outdoor title in the triple jump with an effort of 50-2 1/2 (15.30m). Welch's victory qualifies him for Team USA at the 2003 Junior Pan American Games July 18-20 in Barbados. Junior athletes average 19-or-under during the 2003 calender year.
