STANFORD, Calif. - Fifth-year senior outside linebacker Riall Johnson (Lynwood, Washington/Mariner High School) was named USATODAY.com's Pacific-10 Conference Player of the Week for his efforts in Stanford's upset victory over fifth-ranked Texas last Saturday night at Stanford Stadium.
Johnson sacked Texas quarterback Major Applewhite three times in the victory, and four of his five tackles came behind the line of scrimmage. The three sacks marked the sixth time in Johnson's career that he has recorded two or more sacks in a game, and is second only to his five against Washington State on September 11, 1999.
Johnson, who was a Second Team All-Pacific-10 Conference selection a year ago, has 25 career sacks and 38 career tackles-for-loss. He tied for the Pac-10 lead with 13 sacks in '99, and is tied for the conference lead again this season with five.
