STANFORD, Calif. - The Stanford men will host Michigan Sunday in Stanford's final event of the season at Burnham Pavilion. The No. 4 Cardinal (3-4) defeated the No. 8 Wolverines last season in Ann Arbor by a score of 351.250-346.200. Stanford has a 345.767 three-meet average with a season-high score of 348.400. The team ranks in the top four on pommel horse, still rings and high bar and leads the nation on vault.
Eddie Penev got off to a strong start in 2012 before sitting out last week's meet. The junior from Rochester, N.Y. established career highs this season on floor exercise, rings, pommel horse, parallel bars and all-around. The three-time All-American and 2010 national champion on vault was named MPSF and NCAA gymnast of the week earlier this month and ranks first nationally on vault, second in all-around and floor exercise and seventh on parallel bars.
Sean Senters tied Penev's season-high on vault last week with a 15.500 and established a career-high on floor exercise (14.900). Senters ranks second nationally on vault.
Gabriel Alvarado and John Martin lead the Cardinal on pommel horse. Martin posted a 15.300 to complement Alvarado's 15.200 last week as Stanford established a season-high score on pommel horse. Alvarado and Martin rank fifth and eighth nationally.
Michigan is led by Sam Mikulak who collected his second straight Big Ten Gymnast of the Week award after a strong performance against Ohio State. Mikulak placed first on high bar, parallel bars, vault, rings and floor along with winning the all-round with a score of 90.000. Sophomore Michael Myler took first on pommel horse with a 14.900. Mikulak and freshman Adrian de los Angeles were recently named to the U.S. National Team.
