Last week, the Stanford synchronized swimming team won their pre-season meet against the University of Hawaii. The competition gave the team a chance to practice their new, more challenging routines, while also helping to draw attention to the second-year Hawaii team. The Stanford coaches created a routine that will challenge the athletes and allow them to achieve their highest potential.
The Cardinal have high hopes for this season, and look to defend their back-to-back National Titles. Returning to this years squad are 2004 Olympians and the Stanford's top duet, Sara Lowe (USA) and Courtenay Stewart (Canada). 2006 FINA World Cup participant Elizabeth Anne Markman will provide the team with valuable experience.
Standing in the way of another national championship is third ranked Incarnate Word. UIW will be looking to avenge last season's loss when they travel to Stanford on January 27 at 4:00pm in the Avery Aquatic Center. The match-up will feature two of the elite synchronized swimming programs in the nation. This high level of competition combined with an exciting atmosphere is something you won't want to miss.
