STANFORD, Calif. - Hey SWG fans,
It's only been the second week of classes, yet it feels like fall quarter has been going on for quite a while: Problem sets are due, papers are assigned, and midterms are arriving fast. Inside the gym too, it looks like SWG has been training together for months and is ready for competition season to start, even though it is only the beginning of October. This week we had intrasquads on bars, beam and vault, which the team dominated. Carly Janiga nailed her bar routine, hitting every handstand and sticking her dismount. Heather Purnell rocked beam, giving away no deductions and setting the tone. And Blair Ryland performed a MOBE Yurchenko full and a half on vault, half a twist further than the normal Yurchenko full.
This week was definitely a show of talent, now that we are applying the basics we worked on last week to our actual skills this week. Release moves on bars were very impressive. Nikki's Tkachev's were sky high, Jenny's piked Jaegers were extraordinary and Blair's Tkachev's were solid. We also started endurance and tumbling routines on floor, working on our dance and facial expressions. Allie Skoly definitely receives the gold medal for her effort in that area.
That's all for now,
