Redwood City, CA - Seven of the top fifteen sailing schools in the country will be competing at Stanford's Redwood City basin this weekend. The McIntyre Team Race is the west coast's premiere team racing event, drawing the top four teams from the pacific coast and the top team from each of the Intercollegiate Sailing Association's 6 other districts.
The McIntyre Regatta is named for Jeremy McIntyre '94. Past team captain and ICSA All-American skipper, McIntyre was killed in an avalanche while skiing in 1998. The Team racing format pits three boats from one team against three boats from another team who use boatspeed, boathandling and tactics. The team with the lowest finishing score wins the match.
Wind and weather reports look promising for the two-day 10-team team racing event. Also competing: #2 USC, #3 Yale, #6 U Hawaii, #9 UC Irvine, #12 St. Mary's of Maryland, #14 U South Florida, and unranked Texas A&M, Northwestern and U Washington.
The event will be easily visible from the Redwood City Creek Shoreline. Teams will be easily identifiable wearing vests of their school colors. Racing will take place from 10 am to 5pm on Saturday and 10 am to 4 pm on Sunday.
