Stanford, Calif. - Alice Barnes, Celia Durkin, Amber Liu and Theresa Logar all won their second round matches today to advance to the Round of 16 in the 2006 NCAA Singles Championship this morning at the Taube Tennis Center. The four, who all earned All-America honors, will continue play tomorrow in the third round of competition.

Barnes, seeded No. 7 in the tournament, faced Northwestern's Georgia Rose this morning. The Wildcat had won 29 of her last 30 matches, but Barnes took control early and posted a 6-2, 6-2 victory. She will face Megan Moulton-Levy of William & Mary at 11 a.m.

Durkin dispatched Vanderbilt's Taka Bertrand, 6-3, 6-3 to earn her first All-America honors. Durkin will challenge 9-16 seed Zuzana Cerna of Baylor for a spot in the quarterfinals.

Liu, seeded No. 8 in the tournament, posted a 6-1, 6-2 victory over Anna Lubinsky of Texas A&M to advance to the Round of 16 for the third time in her career. Liu will face UCLA's Riza Zalameda at 10 a.m. on Friday.

Logar, seeded 9-16 in singles, was down a set and down 4-2 in the second, but was able to fight back this morning for a 2-6, 6-4, 6-4 victory over Helena Besovic of TCU. Logar will take on USC's Amanda Fink at 1:30 p.m.

Whitney Deason, who faced top-seeded Audra Cohen of Miami, took a first set victory, but the Hurricane won eight-straight games to capture the three-set win.

In doubles, Barnes and Anne Yelsey fared better than the No. 1 seed in the men's draw, and will play again tomorrow. The top-ranked duo in the nation needed three sets to dispatch Ashley Bentley and Robin Stephenson of Alabama after a 2-6 first-set loss. The Cardinal pair won the second set 7-5 before knocking off the Tide pair, 6-1, in the third. Barnes and Yelsey will face Helena Besovic and Ana Cetnik of TCU at 3:30 p.m. as the pairs battle for a spot in the quarterfinals.

Also in doubles, Durkin and Liu withdrew from the draw, but both will continue on in singles play tomorrow.

Competition in the men's and women's singles and doubles draws will begin at 10 a.m. on Friday morning.
