Stanford, CA - STANFORD sophomore Nicole Ourada has been named Pacific-10 Conference Gymnast of the Week for February 6 - 12 , Commissioner Tom Hansen announced today.
Ourada, a native of Germantown, Wis., and the third Cardinal to be named the Pac-10 Gymnast of the Week this season, recorded a season-high and personal best all-around score (39.575) on Fri., Feb. 9 in Stanford's Annual Breast Cancer Awareness event. Ourada's performance propelled her to the top of the all around national rankings. For the first time this season, a Pac-10 Gymnast holds the highest all-around season average. She finished in first place on the floor exercise (9.925), second place on the bars (9.875) and the beam (9.925) and fourth on the vault (9.850). Her outstanding performance was principally responsible for the Cardinal's ability to turn in their highest team score of the season in spite of the absence of juniors Liz Tricase and Tabitha Yim.
With its stellar performance in the annual Breast Cancer Awareness event, Stanford shot up in the national rankings this week to No. 3, the highest ranking for the team at the mid-season point in school history.
