Cardinal Women Have Strong Showing at Wolfpack Invitational

RENO, Nev. - The Stanford women's indoor track & field team had a strong showing on Saturday at the annual Wolf Pack Invitational, hosted by the University of Nevada at Reno Livestock Events Center.

Maureen Onyeagbako (Sparks, NV) broke her own school record in the weight throw with a NCAA provisional qualifying mark of 61-6 3/4. Onyeagbako set the old record of 59-2 3/4 last season. Also in the weight throw, freshman Jessica Pluth (Spokane, WA) set a personal record with a throw of 56-11 1/2. Pluth moves to third place on Stanford's all-time list in the 20 lb. weight throw. Freshman Jillian Camarena (Woodland, CA) qualified provisionally for the NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championships with a third place throw of 49-2 1/4. Camarena's throw is the third farthest indoor performance in Stanford history.

Stanford took top honors in the high jump as sophomore Kim Stone (Salinas, CA) leaped a career best 5-10 3/4. Stone's peformance is a NCAA provisional qualifying mark. Cheryl Burdick (Ramsey, NJ) finished third in the high jump.

In the 800 meters, the Cardinal placed first and second as Ashley Couper (Pembroke, Bermuda) finished ahead of junior Maurica Carlucci (Franklin, MA) 2:11.71 to 2:12.35.

Freshman Lindsey Johnson (Kennewick, WA) was the top sprinter/hurdler for Stanford over the weekend. Johnson finished seventh in the 55 meter hurdles with a time of 8.27. Johnson was also the top finisher for the Cardinal in the 55 meters crossing the tape in 7.44 seconds. Robyn Woolfolk (Ann Arbor, MI) and Lillian Bush (Columbus, GA) also competed in both events.

In other events, Junior Laura Turner (Portsmouth, RI) finished third in the mile with a time of 4:58.67. Team co-captain Julie Tinker (Sacramento, CA) was fourth in the long jump with a jump of 19-0. Kathleen Donoghue (San Diego, CA) finished fourth in the pole vault.

The Cardinal is next in action this weekend at the Iowa State Invitational in Ames, Iowa.
