SOMERS, Wisc.-- Stanford NCAA butterfly champion Austin Staab was named collegeswimming.com's national swimmer of the week following his performance at the Toshiba Cup, which included 18-straight wins by the Cardinal men and six by the 13-time All-American.
It is the third national honor this fall for the Cardinal men, as Eugene Godsoe earned the award two times previously.
Staab won three individual events over the three-day meet in Long Beach, winning his signature event, the 100 butterfly with a time of 46.31, as well as the 100 free (43.93) and 50 free (19.95). The junior also was a part of the meet-record setting 800 freestyle relay team (6:30.31), as well as the winning 400 medley relay (3:12.69) and 200 free relay (1:19.74) teams.
Staab is the defending NCAA champion in the 100 butterfly and the school-record holder in the event.
The Cardinal are next in action after the New Year's when they host Pacific on January 9.
