Stanford, Calif. - The Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) has honored 128 student-athletes in Division I with a selection on one of the All-Region teams for 2010. Stanford was well represented in the West Region with two players making the first team and three making the second team.
These athletes are now eligible for inclusion on the IWLCA All-American teams, which will be announced on Monday, May 31. The IWLCA will honor the National All-Americans at the IWLCA All-American banquet on June 12, 2010 at the Crowne Plaza Valley Forge in King of Prussia, Pa.
For the second consecutive season, Lauren Schmidt was named to the IWLCA West Region First Team. Schmidt also repeated as MPSF Player of the Year in 2010 and now will look to earn All-America honors for the second consecutive season.
Also being named to the IWLCA West Region First Team was goalkeeper Annie Read. Read was in net for all of Stanford's 15 wins and led the MPSF in goals allowed. She was also a first team all-MPSF player.
Earning spots in the IWLCA West Region Second Team were juniors Sarah Flynn and Leslie Foard and senior Leigh Lucas. Flynn led the Cardinal in scoring with 44 goals, while Foard led Stanford in draw controls with 40. Lucas was Stanford's defensive stopper, often given the role of matching-up with the opposing team's top offensive player.
While the All Region honor was the second for Schmidt, it was the first for Read, Flynn, Foard and Lucas. The five Stanford players honored were the most in program history.
