Sept. 3, 2004
Stanford, Calif. -
Students, alumni and fans across the country will be able to support Stanford sports in 2004-05 by listening to real-time coverage of Cardinal football and men's basketball games on the Web. The Stanford University athletic department announced today that it has teamed with Yahoo! Sports (http://sports.yahoo.com) to deliver real-time audio broadcasts throughout the 2004-05 school year.
By logging on to either GoStanford.com or Yahoo! Sports, fans can access live audio broadcasts of games, press conferences, coach's shows and related athletic department events. In addition, a portion of the revenue from each subscription goes directly to each school's athletic department, so fans will be supporting Cardinal sports financially as well.
The Yahoo! Sports audio offerings are available for both broadband and dial-up users, and enable fans to listen to the radio broadcast of their official school radio station. As a result, alumni that live thousands of miles from their alma mater will be able to follow every game as if they were back on campus and listening to their hometown announcers. This year, Yahoo! Sports will be providing fans with higher-quality audio streaming, and more content from participating schools.
During the football season, Stanford fans will be able to follow the game with play-by-play from Ted Robinson and color analysis from Bob Murphy. Murphy will then handle play-by-play duties during the men's basketball season with John Platz as the color analyst.
All of the schools that are making audio content available via Yahoo! Sports in 2004 - including Stanford - will offer the following subscription packages:
1. School Pass Subscription - users can access all broadcasts for Stanford on a monthly. For example, users can pay $4.95 per month to gain access to all streamed sports broadcasts for only University XX.
2. College Pack Subscription - each school will be integrated into and offered as part of the College Pack subscription for $9.95 per month. This package allows users to access all college broadcasts for all schools
In addition to Stanford, below is a partial list of the schools that will be featured in Yahoo! Sports' College Pack:
· Arizona State
· Iowa State
· Virginia Tech
The content for both subscription packages will go live on September 4 and be accessible to users via GoStanford.com or http://sports.yahoo.com.
