Fall Camp Update

Stanford, Calif. - The Stanford football team opened up its 2006 Fall Camp with a spirited practice at the Elliott Football Practice Fields on Monday afternoon.

"We were thrilled to get back out there again," head coach Walt Harris said following the workout. "It was a productive first day, and the players and staff were eager and energized to return to action."

On the defensive side of the ball, defensive coordinator A.J. Christoff was pleased with the first day of practice.

"Our defense practiced with great enthusiasm and a `want-to' attitude," he said.

The Cardinal will be back at it again on Tuesday with workout #2 at 3:00 pm, PT. Practices are open to fans and media, but all practice times and locations are subject to change.

NOTES: The team practiced only in helmets, with the offensive unit wearing cardinal jerseys and the defense sporting white tops ... The players, coaches and staff got a surprise sneak peak inside Stanford Stadium on Sunday. As the players made their way through the tunnel entrance, their cheers and applause echoed throughout the stadium ... New athletic director Bob Bowlsby joined the team for lunch prior to practice on Monday ... Hundreds of observers and spectators viewed Monday's first workout, many of which were curious onlookers attending the FINA Swimming events hosted by Stanford University at the Avery Aquatic Center.... On Tuesday morning, Stanford hosted over 150 area youths for a football clinic put on by the Angel Tree Foundation and coach Ben Parks. Guests included 49er greats YA Tittle, Ronnie Lott, Eric Wright and Keena Turner as well as Cardinal head coach Walt Harris ... The Cardinal are the only BCS Conference school to open the season with two straight road games ... Defensive back Wopamo Osaisai has rejoined the team after concentrating on track during the spring quarter ... Running back Anthony Kimble missed the opening workout as he recovers from a skin infection ... He rejoins the team on Wednesday ... Michael Horgan, a junior tight end from Pasadena has left the team but will remain enrolled at Stanford.
