The Stanford Women's Crew team returns from their southern road trip with mixed results. A last minute line up change in the Lolola Varsity Four shuffled the racing order so that the Varsity Eight's kicked things off. Despite a further 20 minute delay on the water, Stanford came off the line ready to race. With emphasis on the middle thousand, both Stanford crews demonstrated improved racing skills as they moved through the Loyola Marymount crew to finish first and second in their race.
The Varsity Eight lead from start to finish, opening their lead by the 500m and expanding upon it through the finish.
The JV Eight found themselves down to LMU by a couple of seats in the start. By the 500m mark they had pulled even and engaged in a great battle to gain a few seats through the 1500m point. With 300m to go, the LMU Varsity made a great attempt to challenge the JV boat's lead; however, they fell short by a little more than a seat and gave both Stanford boats a victory.
In the Varsity Four event, UCLA shot off the line and never looked back. Stanford and LMU battled though the 500m point with Stanford's Four never quite able to respond to the Lion's moves. The Stanford Four show a spark at the 1250m mark and worked hard to make up ground but it was a little too late to catch the Bruins or the Lions.
Racing will resume on Saturday, April 30 at Redwood Shores where Stanford will challege Cal in the 2005 Big Row. Races begin at 5:30PM!!! Come for this evening event and help cheer the Cardinal on to victory!
