STANFORD, Calif. - Hey SWG fans,
First off, I'm excited to tell you about our week because we had tons of fun training together, hanging out with one another, and competing (OK, so that happens every week, but this week felt especially exciting!). After our win against University of Arizona last weekend, we watched the video footage of the meet and saw areas that we could improve on. We applied those critiques this week during practice and tried to squeak out those extra tenths.
On Friday, the coaches split us up into two teams for a practice competition. This allowed for a couple of good things to happen: 1. The girls who are close to making it into the lineups got to show their awesome routines; 2. Our competitive sprits were able to really shine and, 3. (arguably the most important) It gave us a great excuse to wear ridiculous costumes that fit each team's theme. Competing for "Team Universe" was Miss Canada (Alyssa), Miss Japan (Allyse), Miss China (Ming Ya), Miss Antarctica (Tenaya), Miss Australia (Carter), Miss Michigan (Nicole D.), Miss Texas (Shelley), and Miss Africa (Ashley). Adorned in over-the-top blush, crowns and sashes, these beauty queens combined their elegance with championship quality routines. Their opponent was "The Veterans" consisting of Cat, Allie, Jenny, Blair, Dani, Peach, and myself. We wore army tape, camo gear, medals of honor, and JP even carried a Nerf gun. With no freshmen on the team, "The Veterans" had experience on their sides. However, it wasn't enough and the beauty queens ultimately got to wear the crown. Highlights included Allie's huge Yurchenko full on vault and Jenny's flawless bar routine.
Needless to say we were pumped to go against No. 1 UCLA on Sunday. Blair led us off with a great vault and set the tone for the calm, yet outstanding performances that happened throughout the rest of the competition. We had solid bar workers, with the back three all receiving 9.9s or better. Cat made her debut in the beam lineup and wowed everyone with her artistry. SWG capped off the night with a show-stopping floor lineup with the last four competitors posting 9.9-plus routines. It was definitely a competition to remember!
Lastly, thanks to everyone for coming out to watch the meet on Sunday. I have never seen it that packed and we definitely fed off of your energy and had such a great time putting on a show for you all!
See you next week!
