ORLANDO, Fla. - Stanford head coach Amy Bokker and assistant Danielle Spencer will take part in the 2012 Champions Challenge hosted by U.S. Lacrosse. Bokker is an assistant coach for the U.S. Team, while Spencer is a player hoping to make the roster for the 2013 World Cup.
The weekend tournament will pit the U.S. Team against the national team from England and some top collegiate teams. The U.S. coaching staff, including Bokker, who works under head coach Ricky Fried, will use the weekend to narrow the U.S. player field to 24. Those 24 will play in a tune-up tournament this summer, before the final 18 are selected for the 2013 World Cup.
Spencer, who is in her first season at Stanford hopes to be one of those players. The former All-American and national champion from Northwestern is a strong candidate for selection.
The final game of the weekend will see the U.S. take on the defending national champions from Northwestern. The game will be aired live on Sunday, Jan. 29, at 10:30am on ESPN3 and later that night on tape delay on ESPNU at 7:30 pm.
