Get an inside look at the Stanford softball team each week. In this edition, redshirt sophomore Tegan Schmidt recaps last week's games.
Hey Cardinal Fans!
My name is Tegan Schmidt, and I am a redshirt sophomore infielder from Rocklin, California.
This past weekend we played a tough series at Arizona State University. When checking the weather prior to leaving we realized we were in for a scorcher. The highs for Friday, Saturday, and Sunday were from 102 to 105. Armed with LOTS of sunscreen and water bottles, we got off the plane in Arizona ready for the heat.
The weekend did not go as well as we had hoped, but the Cardinal demonstrated that it never gives up. We have a lot of fight in us, and no matter the score, we always put pressure on the other team. We added another grand slam to the list so far this season when Jenna Rich hit one out of the park with the bases loaded.
This weekend we have our first bye weekend in my Stanford career. Since there are now an odd number of softball teams (nine in the Pac-12) we have a weekend off from games. However, we will be out on the field getting better at practice and working on the things we need to improve on.
As we get closer to postseason, each game becomes an important and necessary learning experience that will help us grow as a team. Each practice is an opportunity to get better to help enable us to achieve our goal: a journey to the Women's College World Series in Oklahoma City.
In two weekends we play No.13 Washington. It will be a fun one to watch! For those that can't watch in person, feel free to follow Stanford Softball on Twitter (@stanfordsball) or on GoStanford.com. The Cardinal sends out a big thank you to all of our supportive fans!
