Get an inside look at the Stanford softball team each week. In this edition, senior Sarah Hassman talks about this weekend's senior day celebration.
Hey Cardinal fans!
My name is Sarah Hassman, and I am a senior outfielder from Cupertino, Calif.
We are coming off our first bye weekend and it gave us some much needed rest from both school and softball. A huge group of us started off the weekend right by going to the Miranda Lambert concert Friday night at Shoreline Amphitheatre. Miranda did an amazing job and so did Jerrod Niemann, Pistol Annies, Chris Young, AND Blake Shelton, who surprised us all with singing Honey Bee with Miranda! We all had a great time, including Lauren Donovan who truly sang and danced the night away.
On Tuesday night we had our last midweek game of the season against Santa Clara University. The team came away with a 12-1 victory and it included an impressive performance by Cassandra Roulund, who went 3-for-3 with two doubles, a home run, and five RBIs (way to represent the grass Boo!). This is the perfect way to start this final push through the regular season and into postseason.
This weekend we are hosting our final regular season home series against Washington... which means senior weekend! I know I can speak for everyone when I say that these three seniors have worked through blood, sweat and tears (not to mention missing teeth-Ashley Hansen) over these past four years. I was fortunate enough to come in with these three amazing seniors and I can't imagine going through these four years with any other group. It would be great for everyone to show their support for the team and the seniors this weekend by making it out to our games.
Friday night our game is at 7 p.m. and it is our Stanford Showdown game. That means this is the game where fan support is really important and you can expect to see lots of our fellow Stanford student-athletes out at the game (rumor has it the Stanford band may even make an appearance!). So please come out and join the Stanford community in cheering us on!
Our game on Saturday starts at 1 p.m. and then the final game of the series is Sunday at Noon. Jenna Becerra, Maya Burns, and Ashley Hansen will all be recognized before the game on Sunday so make sure to come a little early as we honor their amazing careers here on The Farm.
I look forward to seeing all of you this weekend to come cheer us on in our final regular season home games! GO CARD!
