STANFORD, Calif. - Hey SWG Fans!
The past week has been an exciting one for SWG. We had a nice Christmas break during which we got to go home for a week and see our friends and family. We returned to Stanford last Tuesday and moved back into the hotel where we continued with our team bonding activities.
Our first training day back went really well. Even though two of our girls were stranded back at home due to flight cancelations, SWG was pumped and confident about all the work we did this preseason and knew that they were right there by our sides. As a surprise challenge, Kristen had us move one of the beams out into the hallway to do a beam intrasquad. The routines were great! Everyone looked relaxed and had nice high jumps and clean lines. Our goal before we left for Christmas break was to return in even better shape than when we left. This training day proved just that! SWG looked refreshed, confident and ready to take on the season!
Friday was an exciting day for SWG. Not only did we have a visitor come in to watch our training, but Daytona had also rejoined us! In addition, this day was the last day of 2010! This year had been an amazing and successful year for SWG and we are more than ready to carry this into 2011! This attitude was definitely visible in the gym. The girls were giving all they had on floor circuit, showing off beautiful beam routines, and working sweet elements on bars. A great way to celebrate the coming of the New Year!
Saturday`s intrasquad mimicked the upcoming Pac-10 Preview that will be held at UCLA. We went through the exact order of our rotation including the three byes. The team was thrilled to have Ming back from home and to finally be united. This fueled our excitement. The day`s excitement also escalated as we finished an amazing warmup. The girls looked flawless as they flew through their warmup with confidence and ease. We started off the competition showing sky-high vaults, and then carried the energy over to bars where we stuck 7 for 7 routines with 4 perfect landings! On beam and floor SWG showed true resilience by maintaining mental toughness in delivering strong routines when they were needed, and also proving to one another that we have each other`s backs.
This is an exciting time for SGW. With the start of classes and two weeks of team bonding and confidence building under our belts, the season will soon be under way as we approach the Pac-10 Preview.
Happy New Year and Go Card!
