The Stanford University synchronized swimming team will begin its national title defense in 2007 with a trip to the University of Hawaii on Friday, January 5. Stanford will be competing against the University of Hawaii club team, the Hawaii Synchro Club, which was founded in 2005.
The Cardinal are coming off a remarkable undefeated season in which they claimed their second national title in as many years. With all eight athletes returning from last year's National Championship team and three highly touted freshmen, Stanford once again looks poised to continue its success.
Olympians Sara Lowe and Courtenay Stewart will play key roles in Stanford's quest for another title. Senior co-captain, Samantha Bongiovanni-Duclos, will provide valuable leadership and experience, along with National Team members Poppy Carlig and Elizabeth Anne-Markman. Also returning are juniors Melissa Knight and Hilary Homenko, along with sophomore Erin Bell. The newcomers to this year's team are Debbie Chen, Taylor Durand and Gayle Lee.
The Cardinal swim back into action on Sunday, January 7 at the University of Hawaii, where they will be competing in a Tri-Meet.
The first home meet of the year will be held at the Avery Aquatic Center on January 27 versus Incarnate Word. Come support the team and help make this another memorable season!
