STANFORD, Calif. - The Stanford and UC Davis football programs participated in a rare "joint practice" on Thursday afternoon in front of over 1,000 fans at Stanford Stadium. The practice lasted approximately two-and-a-half hours, and concluded with a 90 minute controlled scrimmage.
Three Cardinal quarterbacks saw action behind center, and the trio combined to go 20-of-29 for 140 yards with one touchdown and one interception. Redshirt freshman Trent Edwards (Los Gatos, CA) was 14-of-10 for 101 yards with one touchdown, while fifth-year senior Chris Lewis (Long Beach, CA) was 5-of-10 for 35 yards.
True freshman Mark Bradford (Los Angeles, CA) was the leading receiver with three catches for 29 yards, while Gerren Crochet (Boulder, CO) had three catches for 20 yards Luke Powell (Smyrna, TN) had three catches for 17 yards.
True freshman David Marrero (Parkland, FL) was Stanford's leading rusher with four carries for 18 yards.
Defensively, the Cardinal recorded six sacks, including two apiece by Babatunde Oshinowo Jr. (Naperville, IL) and Scott Scharff (Wisconsin Rapids, WI). Leigh Torrence and Trevor Hooper chipped in a team-high four tackles apiece.
The Cardinal opens the 2003 season on The Farm against San Jose State on Saturday, September 6 at 7:00 p.m. at Stanford Stadium.
