Marcus Skacel, Curt Toppel Named Second Team All-Americans

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - Stanford University junior Marcus Skacel (Laguna Niguel, CA/Santa Margarita HS) and sophomore Curt Toppel (Pacific Palisades, CA/Loyola HS) have both been named Second Team All-Americans by the American Volleyball Coaches Association.

Skacel earned the first All-American honors of his career after ranking 12th in the nation in dig average (1.99 per game) and 16th in kill average (4.12 pg) for the fifth-ranked Cardinal (14-9 overall). He was also named Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Player of the Week on March 13 after recording 23 and 22 kills, respectively, in wins at UCLA and UC Irvine. In 75 games played, Skacel finished with 309 kills, 149 digs, 41 blocks, 20 service aces and a .293 hitting percentage.

Toppel, who was also a Second Team All-American a year ago, ranks third in the country in kill average (4.12 per game). The sophomore, who had 20 or more kills on eight different occasions, had 364 kills overall and a .318 hitting percentage. The Second Team All-MPSF selection and MPSF Player of the Week (Jan. 24) also had 105 digs, 40 blocks and 22 service aces.
