Game #2 - March 16
Edward Jones Dome - St. Louis

Stanford Head Coach
Mike Montgomery

Coach Mike Montgomery:
"Kansas is a great basketball team. They played great tonight. They came after us right from the get-go and got us backed off. It's happened to us a little bit before, but not to this level. I think that's the best basketball team we've played all season. They really work hard defensively and everybody shot the ball very well. They deserved to win, they play very very well."

(On Kansas' effort and success): "We shot 20-some percent, they shot 50-some percent. We were 3 for 22 from three (point range). My hat's off to Kansas. I really hope Kansas wins it all. Nobody is more deserving than Roy Williams. Nobody does a better job than Roy Williams. We just got stung with their athletic ability. They are really athletic kids. Kansas is a disciplined team. We did a very poor job of coming off screens. They didn't miss many open shots.

(On how Kansas played against Stanford): "They looked at this (us) as a real hurdle and there's always that margin of loose-ball hustle for balls, I mean, there were three of them and none of us after (loose) balls. They had that edge for sure."

(On how to play Kansas): "You're gonna have to have perimeter people who can put it on the floor for sure. Quick perimeter people might be something that might bother them."

Joe Kirchofer:
(On Kansas' fast start): "When you get in a hole like that, it just makes it tough, and it just seems like all their shots are going in and we can't do anything right. You've got to give them credit: they came out and jumped on us and got that lead on us, and that really hurt."

(On whether he was surprised at Kirk Hinrich playing): "Not really. We heard that he wasn't (hurt), then we heard that he was. But that's what happens, especially this time of the season. You never know until you see a guy out there in a suit and tie. He played really well."

Chris Hernandez:
(On Kansas' fast start): "You definitely don't want to get down in the first couple minutes against Kansas. It's not like a team you can make a 20-point run on ... they're really good. We got down and we had a couple of opportunities to at least cut it to 12 and try to make a run at (them), but we made stupid plays and I turned the ball over (at the end of the first half). We didn't deserve to win that game."

Casey Jacobsen:
(On the first 3-4 minutes): "We turned the ball over and they'd come down and hit a three or get a layup. Boschee really came off the screens they set up for him. When he hit his first two threes, it seemed like the screens were getting even harder. He's one of the best shooters in college basketball and they really played around him.

(On Hinrich's injury): "I know Kirk and I knew he was going to play. For a guy playing on one leg, he played with more heart than anybody on both squads.

(On whether he thought Kansas could be beat): "After they lost to Oklahoma and almost got beat by Holy Cross, I thought 'hey we can beat these guys.' They have a great team. I wish them all the best. I hope they win the tourney."

Curtis Borchardt:
(On the first 3-4 minutes): "They were all over us defensively and we couldn't get the ball in. Offensively, they were terrific. Boschee was getting his shots in."

(On Kansas' rebounding): "I thought we'd be able to rebound better, but they worked harder and got to the ball. They were really fired up."
