National Notes Twenty-five athletes (13 men, 12 women) will comprise the Stanford contingent at the 2003 NCAA Division I Track & Field Championships which will be held June 11-14 at the A.G. Spanos Complex on the Sacramento State campus ... The field for this year's NCAA meet will number at least 1,088 athletes - 544 men and 544 women ... The number of NCAA participants increases 40 percent from last year, and will feature the largest number of athletes ever assembled for an NCAA championship event ... In the past, college athletes chased "automatic" and "provisional" NCAA qualifying standards ... Now, the top five finishers in each event at the four regional meets advanced to the NCAA meet ... Six "wild card" qualifiers were added to the NCAA field in each event in addition to those who finished among the top five at regionals ... Wild card selections were determined from the 2003 collegiate list ... The fields in the men's and women's 10,000 meters, the men's decathlon and the women's heptathlon were selected from the 2003 collegiate list ... These events were included in the regional meets ... ... This marks the first NCAA meet held in Northern California since 1968, when it was held at Berkeley's Edwards Stadium.

Chauntae Bayne, Freshman, 1,600 Meter Relay, Ft. Worth, Tx
Ran the second leg on the 1,600 meter relay team (3:35.10, #2 all-time at Stanford) which finished first at the Pac-10 Championships (5/18/03) ... Also ran the second leg on the 400 meter relay team which set a school record time of 45.22 at the Big Meet against California (5/3/03) ... Ran a wind-aided 11.74 in the 100 meters at the Big Meet (5/3/03) vs California ... Her non-winded time of 11.81 in the 100 meters is fifth-best all-time at Stanford and third-best all-time for a freshman ... Undine Becker, Sophomore, Long Jump, San Jose, Ca
Produced a career-best 20-5 (6.22m) meters in the long jump to finish second at the NCAA West Regionals ... Her career-best leap is third all-time at Stanford ... Ran the first leg on Stanford's school record 400 meter relay team which clocked a time of 45.22 at the Big Meet against California (5/3/03) ... Also ran the 100 meters, 100 meter hurdles (14.00, #6 in school history) and 400 meter hurdles (59.18, #3 all-time at Stanford) this year ... Undeclared major.

Sara Bei, Sophomore, 5,000 Meters, Santa Rosa, Ca
Competed in the 800, 1,500, 5,000 and 10,000 meters this year, but will concentrate on the 5,000 meters at the NCAA's ... Ran a 16:03.08 in the 5,000 meters at the Mt. SAC Relays (4/17/03) which is a career-best and sixth all-time at Stanford ... Captured the 5,000 meter title at the NCAA West Regionals in a time of 16:06.48, and finished third at the Pac-10 Championships ... Lillian Bush, Junior, Heptathlon, Columbus, Ga
Produced a second-place finish in the heptathlon at the Pac-10 championships with a personal-best of 5,519 points ... That point total is second-best all-time at Stanford ... Will be competing in her third heptathlon this year at the NCAA's ... Long jumped a career-best 19-11 3/4 (6.09m) at the Pac-10 Championships ... Will be aiming for her fourth and fifth All-America honor in the discus and shot put ... Gained All-America honors for a third time this year in the indoor shot put with a second place finish (57-2 3/4, 17.44m) ... The 2002 Pac-10 champion in the shot put and a second place finisher (55-5, 16.89m) this year ... Threw the shot put a career-best 55-10 1/2 (17.03m) at the Pomona-Pitzer Invitational ... In her first year of collegiate outdoor competition, and has already made a name for herself ... At the Mt. SAC Relays, ran the second-fastest 5,000 meters in school history with a time of 15:25.75 ... Her time is also a freshman school record ... Her time is fifth all-time for a collegiate runner ever, and seventh in the world this year ... Gained All-America accolades with a third place finish in the 5,000 meters (15:43.04) and an eighth place showing in the 3,000 meters at the NCAA Indoors in 2003 ... Ran the second leg on Stanford's winning 1,600 meter relay team at the NCAA West Regionals ... The team's time of 3:07.23 is second-best all-time at Stanford ... Ran the second leg on the 400 meter relay team which posted a time of 40.15 at the Stanford Invitational, the second-best time in school history ...
