Stanford, Calif. - The Stanford women's gymnastics team was honored with the Thomas W. Ford Award at the annual Stanford Athletic Board awards luncheon on June 13. The Thomas W. Ford Award is presented to the team whose student-athletes have demonstrated a special commitment to participation in community outreach programs.
The Cardinal participated in the American Cancer Society Relay for Life, the NCAA Yes Clinics, the Youth Olympics and the Clothing Drive for Urban Ministry.
The 2002 team capped the best season in program history with its first-ever appearance in an NCAA Super Six. The Cardinal ended the regular season at 13-5 overall, captured first-place honors at the NCAA North Central Regional Championships and took third in the NCAA Championship Preliminary Round to advance to its first Super Six. Three gymnasts competed in the Individual Event Finals on the last day of competition, ultimately earning First Team All-America status.
