TALLAHASSEE, Fla.-- Stanford's Dwight Dumais is headed to the Finals of the 3-meter springboard after an eighth place finish in the Semifinals of the AT&T U.S.A. Senior National Diving Championships.
Dumais (Ventura, Calif.), who added to his All-America resume with a 3-meter certificate this past NCAA season, scored 355.60 points in the Semifinals after a 390.25 total in the quarterfinals. His preliminary score was good enough for fifth-best after the first round. Dwight trails his brother, Troy, who scored the event's top marks, at 471.45 in the prelims and 470.30 in the Semifinals.
In the Semifinals, Dumais posted his best score in his final dive, a 2 1/2, two twist pike, when he tallied 74.80 points. He scored 69.00 points in the opening dive following a 2 1/2, one twist pike. In the prelims, the same 2 1/2, one twist pike dive scored the Stanford junior 73.50 points. His final dive of the prelims led to a 73.10 score on the 2 1/2, two twist pike.
Dumais is now one of three Cardinal in the national diving championships. Taylor Sischc is scheduled to dive on Thursday and Friday, while Carmen Stellar, a late edition, will dive in the platform on Friday. Dumais will also compete in the 1-meter event, where he has been named an All-American three times.
