Track & Field Teams Travel To Sacramento Spring Festival

STANFORD, Calif. - Although the outdoor season is only six weeks underway, 11 Stanford track & field athletes (7 men, 4 women) have already qualified for the NCAA Championships (May 31 - June 3) at Duke University ... Eleven athletes (6 men, 5 women) have NCAA provisional times or marks.

This Saturday, the Cardinal travels to Sacramento State to compete in the Spring Festival. The day's events will start at noon with the field events with the running events starting at 2:00 p.m. The site of the meet will also be the home of the Olympic Trials in June.

NCAA Automatic Qualifiers (NCAA Track & Field Championships, Duke University, May 31 - June 3)

Jason Balkman, Senior, Saratoga, Ca
Qualified automatically for the NCAA's with a time of 28:47.82 in the 10,000 meters at the Stanford Invitational (3/25).

Don Conrad, Senior, St. Louis, Mo
The graduate student, and a transfer from Dartmouth gained entry into the NCAA's in the 10,000 meters with a time of 28:55.52 at the Stanford Invitational (3/25) ... His previous best in the 10,000 meters had been 29:38.02.

Lauren Fleshman, Freshman, Canyon Country, Ca
Ran the third fastest time in Pac-10 history at 15:50.18 in the 5,000 meters at the Mt. Sac Relays (4/15) ... Her time qualified her for the NCAA's and exceeded the Olympic Trials standard ... Her time is a freshman school record, easily beating the pervious time of 16:13.57 in 1996 by Mary Cobb ... Her time is also third best overall in school history.

Sally Glynn, Junior, Rockville, Md
One of three Stanford 5,000 meters to qualify automatically for the NCAA's at Duke in June ... Ran a career-best 15:59.10 at the Mt. Sac Relays (4/15), easily beating her previous best of 16:22.39 ... Her time in the 5,

Brad Hauser, Senior, Kingwood, Tx
Off to a great start in the 2000 outdoor season with an NCAA automatic qualifying time of 28:52.63 in the 10,000 meters ... Gained his entry to the NCAA's at the Stanford Spring Opener (3/4).

Brent Hauser, Senior, Kingwood, Tx
One of four Stanford runners who has qualified automatically in the 10,000 meters ... Ran a 28:23.37 at the Stanford Invitational (3/25), second-best in Stanford school history.

Gabe Jennings, Sophomore, Madison, Wi
Qualified for the NCAA's with a first place finish in the 1,500 meters at the Mt. Sac Relays (4/15) ... Ran the second fastest 1,500 meters in school history in his 2000 outdoor debut in 3:40.08, just short of the school record of 3:39.26 by Marc Olesen in 1988 ... Jennings also has an NCAA qualifying time in the 5,000 meters at 13:44.60, set at the Stanford Invitational (3/25) ... That time is third-best in Stanford track & field history ... Jennings is the Stanford athlete to qualify in more than one event this year at the NCAA's.

Summer Pierson, Senior, Niskayuna, NY
Met the Olympic and NCAA qualfying standard in the discus with a career-best throw of 190-9 at the Pomona-Pitzer Invitational (4/14) ... Her throw was nearly nine feet better than her previous best ... Her throw was also second-best in school history and eighth-best in Pac-10 history.

Michael Stember, Junior, Fair Oaks, Ca
Exceeded the NCAA qualifying standard in the 1,500 meters with a time of 3:40.71 at the Stanford Invitational (3/26) ... His time is third-best in school history.

Toby Stevenson, Senior, Odessa, Tx
Has made the NCAA's for a third straight season ... Qualified for the national meet with a leap of 18-2 1/2 at the Stanford Invitational, which tied his career-best ... Stevenson set his qualifying mark at the Stanford Invitational (3/26).

Erin Sullivan, Freshman, Jericho, Vt
The freshman from Vermont is off to a great start in her Stanford career ... Qualified for NCAA's with a time of 16:11.14 at the Mt. Sac Relays (4/15), a freshman school record.
