Redwood City, Calif. - The Cardinal Co-ed Sailors ended up 5th at the 10-team Jeremy D. McIntyre Regatta this past weekend. The event, previously known as the Stanford Team Race, was renamed in 1999 after the tragic death of Jeremy McIntyre, Sailing Team member and Stanford class of 1994. The Team Racing format pits three boats from one team against three boats from another team, each utilizes rules and maneuvers to help his/her team across the finish line first. Powerhouse Boston College with 2001 College Sailor of the year Tyler Pruett dominated the event with incredible consistency in the variable conditions. Pacific Coast District schools U Hawaii,UCSB and USC were all able to beat the Cardinal sailors this weekend, meaning the Stanford team has some work to do before it gets to the PC Team Race Champs in April.
"We learned a number of lessons this weekend that will make us stronger going into the PC Champs, and then onto the National Championships," explained Head Coach Jay Kehoe. Four of the Stanford doublehanded co-ed teams battled it out this weekend, Ted Conrads '03 with crew Amy Halvorsen '05, Dave Phillips '04 with crew Kara Sweeney '03, Peter Deming '04 with crew Lauren Gross '05 and David Kenny '03 with crews Jules McCraw '03 and Jessica Gray '04.
