STANFORD, Calif. - Stanford lacrosse, winners of four in a row, will host the MPSF Championships this weekend at Cagan Stadium. The Cardinal has earned the No. 3 seed and will face second-seeded Denver on Friday in the late game at 7pm. The early game will feature top-seeded Oregon and No. 4 seed California at 4:30pm.

Stanford has won seven-straight MPSF tournaments, but will encounter its biggest challenge in years. Oregon is undefeated in conference and 12-4 overall. The Ducks face an 8-7 Cal team that is 4-3 in the MPSF. Stanford will take on Denver who is 12-2, including 6-1 in conference. The Pioneers lone conference loss came in the final game of the season to Oregon.

Stanford is 5-2 in conference, but just 7-9 overall. However, Stanford played the conference's toughest schedule, facing five ranked teams to start the season. In the first meeting, Denver defended its home turf, beating the Cardinal, 12-9. Mikayla Clark had a hat trick in that game for Denver, while Emilie Boeri led Stanford with three goals of her own.

In its last visit to Cagan Stadium, coming in 2011, the Cardinal routed Denver 16-6, but these are two very different teams. Denver and Stanford also tangled in one of the most memorable games in MPSF tournament history in the 2010 final, when Stanford prevailed 11-10 in double overtime. In that game, Karen Nesbitt scored the game-winner with just seconds to play.

Oregon beat California 10-9 in its MPSF opener back on February 26. If Stanford were to advance to the final, it would face the winner of these two teams. Stanford lost at home to Oregon by a score of 13-7, but won at Cal on a late Boeri goal, 9-8.

The Cardinal has been led by the Boeri twins, Emilie and Anna Boeri all season. The duo has combined for 55 goals and 35 assists. However, Stanford has also seen excellent play from a group of talented freshmen. Emily Newstrom is second for the Cardinal with 26 goals, while Hannah Farr has 20 and Kyle Fraser 17.

Catherine Swanson is the Cardinal leader in draw controls with 45, in fact she needs just seven to tie the single-season Stanford record. Swanson is also tied for the team lead in ground balls with Elizabeth Adam with 27. Lyndsey Munoz continues to play every minute in goal, amassing 141 saves for the season.

All three games of the tournament will be available on gametracker and live twitter updates from @MPSF_WLaxChamps.

Tickets for the MPSF Tournament will be single day for $7 and $5 for students. The first 50 students to arrive at the Stanford game at 7pm on Friday will receive free admission. All seating for the tournament is general admission.

The winner of the MPSF tournament will host the winner of the Patriot League in a play-in game on Saturday, May 5, at 1pm. Navy went undefeated in the Patriot League and is the favorite to win that conference tournament.
