"I was very saddened to hear the news of the passing of Jack Elway. He was a cherished member of the Stanford family and one of our finest head football coaches. In his five seasons at Stanford, Jack took a team that had not been to a bowl game in 15 years and turned it into one of the top programs in the nation. His 1986 Gator Bowl team was one of the best in Stanford history. Throughout his college coaching career, Jack proved to be an innovator, a motivator, a coach with the highest integrity and a committment to student-athletes. Our thoughts and prayers are with the Elway family."
