STANFORD, Calif. - The No. 4 Stanford men's gymnastics team will face-off with No. 1 Oklahoma Saturday night in Norman. The Sooners defeated the Cardinal, 351.600-343.700, at Burnham Pavilion earlier this season. Oklahoma has a three-meet average of 350.480 on the season and the Cardinal 344.458.
Stanford is coming off its best performance of the season at the Stanford Showdown. Hosting No. 8 Michigan, the Cardinal posted a season-best score of 351.050, defeating the Wolverines by more than nine points. Stanford swept all six events, with individual titles going to Cameron Foreman (parallel bars, high bar) , Eddie Penev (floor exercise), Gabriel Alvarado (pommel horse), Jordan Nolff (still rings), and Cale Robinson (vault).
The Cardinal are in the top-five in the country in all six events, ranking second on vault, fourth on pommel horse, high bar and still rings, and fifth on floor exercise and parallel bars.
Penev leads the country in all-around and is second to Oklahoma's Jake Dalton on floor exercise. Penev tops the leaderboard on vault, followed by Sean Senters (2nd) and Cale Robinson (6th) in Stanford's strongest event.
Dalton ranks second in the country in all-around, high bar and parallel bars, sixth on still rings, and ninth on vault. He was named MPSF Co-Gymnast of the Week on Wednesday after winning floor exercise and vault in a victory over Iowa.
