STANFORD, Calif. – A seven-run fifth inning propelled No. 13/11 Stanford to a 10-1 victory in five innings Tuesday at UC Davis.
Holding a 3-1 lead entering the top of the fifth, Stanford (12-0) recorded seven runs on four hits and capitalized on three errors by the Aggies (4-9). It is the fifth time this season Stanford has scored seven or more runs in a single inning.
Madi Schreyer (9-0) picked up her ninth win on the year, striking out five Aggie batters and allowing one run on three hits and a walk.
Roulund got the Cardinal on the board in the third inning with a three-RBI double to right-center. She leads the team with 16 RBI on the year and her 17 hits is tied for the team high.
With the bases loaded and one out in the fifth inning, Winter got the seven-run rally going with a two-RBI single to put Stanford up 5-1. White followed with a bouncer to the right side of the infield that found its way through the second baseman’s legs and rolled into the outfield, scoring two more runs to give the Cardinal a 7-1 advantage.
The Cardinal plated it final three runs on a hectic play that started with a single and ended with the batter scoring a run. With Noll at second and White at third, Roulund singled up the middle and into centerfield. The Aggies centerfielder attempted to throw out Noll at home but it was late.
After the throw home, the catcher tried throwing out Roulund who was advancing to second on the throw to the plate. The catcher’s attempt sailed into centerfield and Roulund ran home to score Stanford’s 10th run.
The Cardinal will resume play this Friday through Sunday at the Mary Nutter Classic in Cathedral City, Calif. Stanford will take on Maryland, No. 15 Baylor, No. 23 LSU, Syracuse and No. 2 Tennessee.
