SANTA BARBARA, Calif. – Stanford sailing edged UC Santa Barbara 158-159 Sunday to claim the PCCSC fall championship and complete the sweep of all four fall conference regattas.

Stanford delivered consistent performances in a competition that featured 12 races among 21 teams in three divisions. The Cardinal accumulated a combined 35 top-10 finishes, including 25 results in the top five.

Every point mattered as Stanford pulled out the one-point victory over UC Santa Barbara, which finished second. Long Beach finished third with 176 points, followed by Hawaii (210) and California Maritime Academy (229).

It was Stanford’s fourth conference victory after Oliver Toole and Molly McKinney placed first at the PCCSC Men’s and Women’s Singlehanded competitions, respectively, and the Cardinal claimed the PCCSC Match Race Championship.

Mateo Vargas and Tally Buckstaff tallied 57 points in a competitive division-A to place third. The duo finished in the top-10 in each of their races and earned seven top-five results.

Antoine Screve, Quinn Vangelos and Michelle Catania represented the Cardinal in division-B, claiming 57 points to place second. Screve and Vangelos sailed together in the first four races and earned four top-three finishes. Catania took over for Vangelos in the fifth through eighth races, generating one victory and two second-place results. Vangelos rejoined Screve to close out the competition, again claiming four top-five placements.

Stanford earned a second-place result in division-C with Toole and Kelly Ortel claiming 44 points. Toole and Ortel led the Cardinal with 10 finishes in the top-five. The duo placed in the top-10 in each of their 12 races.

Stanford will return to action this Tuesday as it takes on California in the annual Big Sail at the St. Francis Yacht Club in San Francisco, Calif.
