USA Water Polo release
STANFORD, Calif. - Stanford men's water polo alumnus Janson Wigo '10 along with current standouts Alex Bowen '15 and Bret Bonanni '16 were named to the USA Senior National Team that will participate in the FINA World League Super Final this June, USA Water Polo announced Tuesday.
The event is set for June 11-16 in Chelyabinsk, Russia. Bowen and Bonanni are two of just three current collegians on the 15-man USA roster, with Pacific's Alex Obert the third.
The two Cardinal players were in Los Alamitos this past weekend participating in the FINA World League Prelims at which the USA took first. Bowen played with the senior national team during the weekend while Bonanni was part of the "USA 2" squad and the Junior National Team roster.
The World League Final will mark the third time that the duo has competed for the USA this year. The 2012 ACWPC All-Americans were part of the senior national team that took second at the UANA World Championship Qualification Tournament, thus earning a world championship spot for the USA.
Wigo, who trained with the national team ahead of the 2012 Olympics but did not make the final roster, continues his work with the squad at the World League Super Final. He was also on the 2011 USA World University Games Team that finished fourth.
Over his four years at Stanford (2006-09), Wigo scored 166 goals and earned ACWPC All-America recognition four times.
