Rodgers Becomes Two-Time PING First Team All-American

STANFORD, Calif. - Stanford golfer Patrick Rodgers has been named a first team PING All-American for the second consecutive year, as announced by the Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA).

In his sophomore season, Rodgers had six top-10 finishes, including three victories for five collegiate titles overall. He led the Cardinal with a 70.88 stroke average (34 rounds) and holds the Stanford Career Low Stroke Average record at 70.77 (71 rounds).

This year Rodgers made the PING All-Region West Team, the All-Pac-12 first team and was a Pac-12 All-Academic honorable mention.

Also for the second consecutive year, Rodgers advanced to the semifinalist round for the Ben Hogan Award and will compete in the Palmer Cup, representing the United States on June 7-9 at Wilmington Country Club in Wilmington, Del.

During the fall, Rodgers defended his Olympia Fields/Fighting Illini title with a five stroke victory (72-68-67-207). The sophomore went on to win the U.S. Collegiate by seven strokes after carding rounds of 70-72-67 (209).

This spring Rodgers captured the Southern Highlands Collegiate Masters title (66-73-73-212) in a sudden death four-man playoff against California’s Michael Kim, Alabama’s Cory Whitsett and New Mexico’s James Erkenbeck. He birdied the 18th twice to get in the playoff and win the individual medal.

Rodgers is joined on the first team by Daniel Berger of Florida State, Julien Brun of TCU, Greg Eason of UCF, James Erkenbeck of New Mexico, Max Homa of California, Michael Kim of California, Cheng-Tsung Pan of Washington, Brandon Stone of Texas, Michael Weaver of California and Cory Whitsett of Alabama.

Stanford’s All-American First Team selections have been Stephen Smith (1960), Notah Begay III (1994), Tiger Woods (1995, 1996), Joel Kribel (1997, 1998, 1999), Sihwan Kim (2008), Andrew Yun (2011) and Patrick Rodgers (2012, 2013).
