Chris Hutchins

Hutchins came to Stanford in July, 2005 as a Special Assistant to the Director of Athletics / Stadium Management. She served as the primary project leader in facilitating and coordinating all aspects of the stadium management plan with Stanford Athletics respective departments as it relates to marketing, facilities & operations (construction), ticket sales, ticket operations, public relations, and community outreach.

In December, 2006, Hutchins accepted her new role as Senior Associate Athletic Director of External Relations. Hutchins is part of a senior management team that works collaboratively to manage the operation of 35 NCAA Division I and Pac-12 athletic programs. Core administrative responsibilities include managing all aspects of external relations such as media relations and communications, marketing and game day presentation, creative video services, internet and intranet, multi-media rights, spirit group management, and community relations. 

Hutchins also serves as the primary liaison to the university’s Office of Public Affairs and Communications, Trademark and Licensing, Student Affair/Life and Alumni Association.  In addition, Hutchins oversees Stanford Athletics Synchronized Swimming program.

Hutchins graduated from MIT Sloan School of Management with an MBA in Strategic Management Consulting and Marketing. She also graduated from the University of Chicago with a BS in Economics and Public Policy. While working in the corporate sector, Hutchins honed her extensive business acumen in marketing and business development with a long-term vision of transferring her experience to the nonprofit sector as a public servant.

Highlights of Hutchins' prior work experience include serving as the Executive Director for the 2004 Silicon Valley Bowl, formerly 1 of 28 NCAA Division 1-A licensed football bowls. In this capacity, Hutchins oversaw all aspects of game operations, tickets, marketing, media relations, sponsorship sales, special events and community relations. Furthermore, Hutchins was the former Chief Development Officer for New York City-based National Center for Missing & Exploited Children (NCMEC). Hutchins launched and managed this chapter office for all fundraising, community relations and marketing goals.

In addition, Hutchins served as the Vice President of International Marketing & Business Development for San Jose-based Xuade, Inc., an eMarketing Customer Relationship Management software startup. Previous to Xuade, Hutchins co-founded Sousa Communications, a cause-related Marketing and Public Relations firm. Lastly, Hutchins also spent five years in the financial services industry as a financial analyst for Solomon Smith Barney and Deutsche Bank.

She and her husband Chris, are parents of their daughters, Skylar and Sequoia.
