STANFORD, Calif. - The spring portion of the Stanford sailing schedule is underway with the Cardinal already making waves with a number of wins and accolades in its last few outings. Stanford won both the Mendelblatt Team Race and USF Women's Regatta and looks to build on that momentum throughout the rest of the spring campaign.
"The Mendelblatt Team Race was a great event to start off the year," Stanford head coach John Vandemoer. "We faced defending national champion College of Charleston and knocked them off to take the regatta, which was the first time any West Coast team had ever won the Mendelblatt trophy.
"We were also able to win the USF Women's Regatta for the second year in row, going away with the victory on day two. The race was held at the venue which will play host to nationals at the end of the season, so we're hoping that will be a good precursor for things to come."
In the latest top 25 standings released by Sailing World, the Cardinal is ranked fourth in the coed poll and ninth in the women's poll.
The North #1 and #2 hosted by Stanford on Feb. 10 featured a Cardinal win behind the efforts of a 12-point output by Stanford's Red squad. Stanford's Cardinal squad was second with 16 points and its White squad was fourth with 21 points.
