LONG BEACH, Calif. - For the third straight day at the Belmont Plaza Olympic Pool, the Stanford men's swimming team rolled by the competition at the Arena Invitational to win its final event of the fall season. Stanford's 2,112 points secured a first-place finish among the 10-team field, more than doubling the total of second-place Hawaii (848).

Aaron Wayne highlighted Saturday evening's races with a meet record 42.96 in the 100 free.

"I'm very happy with our overall team performance," Goldman Family Director of Men's Swimming Ted Knapp said. "Our first half of the season set a great base for the upcoming holiday training and championship season."

Danny Thomson went the distance to win the 1,650 free in 15:02.18 as Bryan Offutt (15:18.22) was second.

Matthew Swanston (1:42.54), Matt Thompson (1:42.70) and Will Gunderson (1:44.78) took the top three spots in the 200 back.

Wayne won the 100 free in 42.96 in front of Andrew Saeta (44.09) and third-place Sean Duggan (44.45).

The 200 breast saw Mason Shaw (1:59.26) take third as Gray Umbach (1:45.69) tapped second in the 200 fly.

Saeta, David Nolan, Wayne and Duggan teamed to win the 400 free relay in 2:55.04 to end the three-day championship format meet.

While its divers wrap up the Arizona Invite Sunday, the Cardinal swimmers return to the pool for a home dual meet against Pacific on Jan. 5.
